You don’t need to dropout anymore
I don’t think that dropping out of college to start a company makes sense anymore.
The argument used to be that it was hard to juggle both. Building a company took all your time, and classes competed with that. If you were serious about an idea, leaving school could give you the time to actually pursue it.
I think AI tools are changing that tradeoff. You can build and test more with a smaller team while you’re still in school. You still need technical judgment and the ability to make something people want, but there’s more room to figure that out before deciding to leave.
For me, The stronger reason to stay, is the people. College puts you around people with different backgrounds, interests, and ways of seeing the world. Those conversations help you refine your ideas and understand problems you wouldn’t have encountered on your own. That’s a big part of what getting an education means to me.
If something takes off and needs your full attention, leaving might make sense. But you can start building now and let the work give you a reason to leave.
